As for who the father is, and I'm not trying to sound like a wiseass here, I wouldn't be asking if I know who he was now would I. My guess bet is that it's some new character the creators made up and haven't revealed.
I really think it would be awful if they came up with a new character as Lin's dad, but it will probably be what happened. You know, in the comics, Toph had a thing with a guy, apparently he used to work at her house, or he is the son of someone who worked there, idk, maybe it could be him. aaaaaaaagdhsdgs idk this is really messy, I hope they give us the answer soon, and hope that they don't disappoint us
